Why We Love Thanksgiving…

Thanksgiving is coming, and it’s always a good day.  So why do we love it?

Heading to the Burbs.

Yes, us city folk enjoy the annual trip to the Suburbs.  Big supermarkets, plenty of parking, strip malls, cheesy restaurant chains (but oh so good) like TGI Fridays and actual backyards…#enoughsaid.  Love it.

Eating…

Deep Fried Turkey & sour cream mashed potatoes.  If you haven’t tried a deep fried, try it.  You might never go back.  And yes, a mashed potato and stuffing is a rite of passage…and who has ‘stuffing’ other than this day anyways?  Interesting.

Conversations.

Yeah, no iphones, no Twitter, no Instagram, no Facebook (seriously, is it still around?) just grab a glass, pull up a chair and talk.  Listen.  Engage.  Be present….it’s a good thing.

Football.

Yes, an outdoor game with the kids is necessary.  And then of course the NFL.  Let’s be honest, it’s the best thing ever and even if you are a football hater, you will watch it come Turkey Day.  Yes, Detroit is actually finally now fun to watch with the meathead yet lovable coach, while Dallas always has something fun going on…whether it be the cheerleaders or Jerry Jones in his suite box or a very orange tan Troy Aikman commentating.  That said, every Hip Daddy Household needs a very large TV screen for this important football viewing.

The Kids.

It’s Holiday season so smiles and laughs are heard round the clock…this is pure happiness for all Hip Daddys.  It’s fun teaching them about traditions, and setting tables, and saying food blessings, and generally being a well-mannered and polite young man or woman.

Movies.

Watching movies or actually going to a movie.  How many of you Hip Daddys have not gone to a movie theatre in a long long time? And Frozen 2 doesn’t count.  One time of year to perhaps think about a trip to the SuperLux movie theatre…yes, ‘t’s around Turkey Day weekend.

The Smells.

And we aren’t talking about diapers.  We are talking the smell of things cooking and baking in a kitchen, the spruce garland, the candle burning.  The aromas take over the apartment/house and the senses tell you today is a good day.

Being Thankful.

Seriously, figure out what you are thankful and talk about it.  This is a day that really emphasizes such retrospect and incitefulness.  The kids and health…that is enough for this Hip Daddy Household.

So please enjoy yourself today.  Eat.  Drink.  Play.  Talk.  Listen.  Watch.  Smile.  Smell.  Be Thankful.  Happy Thanksgiving.  Gobble Gobble…
