Tell us about your kids. What’s it like being a Father?
It may sound corny but there is truly nothing more fulfilling than my role as a father. I have three amazing boys ages 2, 7 and 9 – hanging out with them makes the pace of a startup seem like a picnic. They are smart, funny, kind and constantly in motion…which is what we like.
Talk to us about your parenting style?
My wife and I are very aligned in terms of parenting style. We provide guardrails but are not over-bearing. Our philosophy toward common indulgences for kids such as TV, technology, junk food is that anything in moderation is OK. This empowers them to manage behavior and we are always there to keep it in check if they have a lapse. We encourage all of their interests at this stage…from sports to arts, etc. The more well rounded, the better.
Favorite piece of clothing you wear with them or favorite piece of clothing you dress them in?
My kids have great clothes and a very unique sense of style. All of the credit for that goes to my wife – who also has great style. One loves his flat caps (ideally Miami Heat), another his gold Supra high-tops and the baby, his scary monster snow hat.
What’s the one thing you can’t live without as a Dad?
Coffee
The New York Times recently included you in an article around the growing “Three-child household” in Manhattan, tell us about this experience of raising 3 in NYC?
In some ways it’s easier – for example my wife and I both work so it makes coordination of school, activities, etc. much easier given our proximity to it all. However in other ways more difficult – living space will always be an issue relative to the burbs.
Talk to us about running a successful new company in MacK Weldon while managing Fatherhood duties.
It’s full throttle all the time! But I have to say that many Mondays I find myself sitting down at my desk and saying “ahh”. In all seriousness, having an extremely busy life keeps you feeling energized and sharp – especially when you are doing what you love.
Any plans for Mack Weldon Kids?
Funny you should ask – we are targeting the launch of our Mini-Mack socks in time for Father’s Day (hopefully). In general though we are focused on our core market of men – 25-45+ for now – there’s plenty of opportunity right here to keep us busy.
