Hip Daddy Travel: Nantucket In A Nut (Sea) Shell.

Nantucket.  It’s a beauty.  Just 30 miles south off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this island is the ultimate summer vacation destination #plainandsimple.  The Hip Daddy Team had the pleasure to visit the island very recently and created the most perfect Travel Guide…’express style.’   We kept our Guide curated, crafted, and edited, so you can utilize if you are staying 1 night or even 7 nights of course.  The Hip Daddy Nantucket Travel Guide gives you the ‘musts’ and that’s about it.  Off we go…

Stay

Yes, the White Elephant is a Hip Daddy Can’t Miss, an island staple in resort luxury and quintessential charm.  But here at Hip Daddy, we like to discover new things…and we found a beauty on Broad Street.   The new hip charming inn meets boutique style hotel 21 Broad St. recently opened and it is simply amazing.  No detail is left missed.  The décor and furniture alone is simple and elegant.  The Managers (Ray & Kealy) are warm and iniviting…and seem to know what they are doing when it comes to guest relations.  We love the fresh fruit and smoothies every morning, the fire pit on the patio is perfect for a island breeze summer night, the rooms mimic luxury with a modern feel…think Four Seasons Meets The Standard, relax and read a book on the front porch or take the hotel provided beach chairs and towels off to the beach.  For those traveling with kids, it is absolutely kid friendly and has adjoining room options.  21 Broad is simply delightful.

Play

Cisco Brewery. Pretty simple stuff here.  Hip Daddy gets to enjoy a local beer while the kids run around with other kids, all while listening to some live music.  There is a sense of community amongst the lawn chairs and tables…a sort of small town feel meets trendy Brewery.  From farmers to frat boys to Beacon Hill families to NYC fashionistas to your typical New England tourist, the scenery is diverse and vibrant.   Quick tip- take the shuttle from town, and don’t forget to buy a Tee.

Surfside Beach. We like waves and this beach has them (hence the name.)  And more importantly, it is one of the few beaches on the island that offer services like public restrooms and most importantly, a snack shack…the hot dog is to die for #justsayin.  Quick tip: take THE WAVE public transportation from town for ease.

Youngs Bike Shop. Rent a bike with the family, it’s another Nantucket right of passage.  And Youngs has been around for like 100 years or something crazy, so they know bikes.  Just be sure you know how to ride one before doing so as there are plenty of cars on these island roads…it is not Amsterdam.

Shop

Bodega.  We love a cool home décor/furnishings shop, and Bodega is our favorite.  The name and branding says it all…classic, simple and beautiful.  You might want to buy everything in the store which could be a Hip Daddy Problem.

Toy Boat.  You had us at ‘Toy”, and the cute life preserver inspired sign.  Every Hip Daddy needs to visit this shop, your kids will not be disappointed.  Yes, marbles and other classic toys make this shop so special and an absolute Must Visit.

Haul Over. The complete shop for all Hip Daddys.  Whether you need a Johnnie-O shirt, a Patagonia slicker or a Fjall Raven backpack for the kids, Haul Over has you covered.

Follain. We’ve covered them before around Hip Mother’s Day, but this apothecary boutique carries all-natural products in a chic setting, and is a great emerging brand with lots to see.  Check it out, no doubt, and be sure the Hip Mommy is in tow too!

Eat

Cru.  You feel like you are in NYC at ABC Kitchen, but you are not. You are overlooking the beautiful marina in an outdoor/indoor restaurant that is basically a very hip oyster bar…that said, the pull porked sliders and calamari are mouth watering and yes, the kids menu is perfect (beware..portions are large.)  So grab a table outside and enjoy the best food and view on the island.

Drink

Slip 14.  At the end of the docks, this is a great spot that is casual and comfortable.  Enjoy a delicious margarita at sunset, and the menu is affordable and actually, really good.  It’s a good find off the beaten path, waiting for you to discover it.

Be Merry

Club Car.  Don’t bring the kids.  This is a wildly fun watering hole, complete with ‘cougars’ and Grandpas on the prowl.   And although that might sound kind of creepy, the live piano fun and singing crowd makes it all very friendly and innocent fun. Quick tip- if you don’t like Billy Joel classics, you might want to leave this one off the list.

There you have it.  It’s August, book a Nantucket vaca now, and soak up the Summer sun while you still can.  Hip Daddy likes an island getaway, and Nantucket is most certainly…Hip Daddy Approved!
