Okay, there are lots of beautiful places in the lovely USA. And yes, many of them happen to be in California. That said, travel north of Los Angeles a couple hours and you might just find yourself in Heaven. Montecito, just south of Santa Barbara, is a charming ‘village’ home to wonderful things (including some of Hip Daddy family…#justsaying), and is a Hip Daddy Travel Must. Either traveling with the kids or solo, our Montecito Travel Guide has you covered.
MONTECITO INN– Prime location right on Coast Village Road. A bit outdated but still, it was built by Charlie Chaplin in 1928 so that history and nostalgia alone is reason to visit.
SAN YSIDRO RANCH– We love this property. Set back up in the hills, it is uber private and a breathtaking property. From the landscaping to the architecture to a top resaurant to the Plow & Angel pub, San Ysidro is downright awesome.
FESS PARKER DOUBLETREE– This property is farther down the road closer to Santa Barbara downtown. It’s def the place to stay if traveling with the clan. Conveniently located right on the water, it is very expansive property with tons of room to run around. The outdoor pool is heated and all sort of local attractions are nearby- can you say Santa Barbara Zoo? Oh, and their Sunday buffet brunch is excellent and perfect for the egg and waffle loving kids!
FOUR SEASONS BILTMORE– Okay, yes, celeb central (including the Khardasian asses) but still a great place to stay. Although similar to the San Ysidro in price and luxury, its location is waterfront and right around the corner from the main town. The property features a nice private pool, a stunning lounge with some legit nighttime entertainment, and an outdoor restaurant with delicious food. It is a bit more ‘busier’ then you might expect. And have no fear, they do offer many Kids Activities.
JENNI KAYNE HOME– Jenni Kayne (known for her west coast women’s line started at the age of 19) now has a Home line…and it is awesome. Gauranteed you will find at least one item for the Hip Daddy Household.
WENDY FOSTER– Traveling with Hip Mommy or Hip Girlfriend? Wendy has something for you. A women’s boutique in the heart of Coastal Village Road with plenty to offer, from denim to sweaters to California inspired accessories.
JAMES PERSE– A Hip Daddy Staple of sorts. Beautiful store in the Montecito Country Mart. Small, but a complete well curated selection of product. Need a nice Hip Daddy tee to take in the Cali sun? Try James Perse.
TOY CRAZY– Every beautiful quaint California town needs a hip toy store. And yes, Montecito delivers. Toy Crazy will drive you and the kids “crazy” and therefore is a Must visit. The name alone is perfect.
Eat & Drink.
JEANNINES– Best breakfast and baked items ever. Go. Done.
LUCKY’S– Voted a Hip Daddy Top 5 Steakhouse. Ambiance is amazing…great people watching…and the food (most importantly) is superb. Eat some red meat. Steak it is. Lucky’s here you come.
LOS ARROYOS– What’s a visit to Montecito without some good Mexican? Los Arroyos on Coastal Village Road has authentic Mexican food and a margarita that will likely result in ordering another one. It’s true. And even cooler, this is a tight knit family run spot which every Hip Daddy can support!
AVOCADO- You are in California. So eat avocado. And for some reason, every avocado in Montecito is better than any other avocado we have ever eaten…therefore eat any and all, avocados are good for you!
WATCH SURFERS- There is a great break just down from Butterfly Beach in front of Montecito Shores. Surfers come from all around to play in the surf. Something about watching people surf that calms the mind…
WALK THE BEACH- Seriously, walking the beach at sunset is an amazing experience. Tons of people..from families laughing to people walking their dogs to kids running and playing in the sand to a celeb in sunglasses with a hoodie on. The sunset is gorgeous and will leave you coming back for endless more.
DRINK ON TERRACE AT EL ENCANTO HOTEL– This beautifully restored luxury hotel sits on top of Santa Barbara with breathtaking ocean views. Can you say Romantic?
STEARNS WHARF– Eat lunch (and crack open peanuts) at Longboards, then visit Ty Warner’s Sea Center with the kids. And yes, what’s a visit to the Wharf without some ice cream or candy.
DOWNTOWN SB- Although a short drive away, Santa Barbara has a world to offer. Start simple…walk and shop State Street…plenty of great stores and places to eat.
WE LOVE VONS- Every Hip Daddy likes a great grocery store (or at least this one does.) And we are lovin the Von’s Supermarket in the Country Mart. Friendly people, great produce and again, located in Montecito which makes everything better.
So there you have it.
